Year 6’s most recent adventure is ‘The Arrival’ by Shaun Tan. This is a unique and fascinating story which has no words! Therefore Year 6 have had to work hard on their interpreting skills to decide what is happening in the story. This has created some strong debates and children’s viewpoints on the story so far. Year 6 are becoming master writers by slowly building up their own written version of the story to fit the images we can see in the book. They have been working to develop their use of powerful language, sentence types and building a cohesive piece of imaginative description.
They are working on developing mood and atmosphere to create a truly gripping piece of writing. Year 6 also recreated some of the intricate sketches which can be found within the book with great success including their own self- portraits in the illustrator’s style.
